Chris Lee started DJing at 16 years old in Wollongong. By his early twenties he was working residencies across the Illawarra, headlining events for 10,000+ people at festivals across NSW, and touring as support for some of the biggest acts in dance music.
Chris opened for Calvin Harris and Drake, and played pubs, clubs, outdoor stages and corporate galas. That kind of run teaches things no wedding-only DJ picks up: how to read 400 people and adjust on the fly, how to transition between songs so the floor keeps moving, and when the energy needs a lift versus a breath.
All of that now goes into weddings across the South Coast, Illawarra, Southern Highlands and Sydney. Chris reads a room by feel more than by request list, and hosts a reception without a dead moment on the mic.

The Difference
What separates a great DJ from one who just plays songs
Every DJ has a hard drive full of music. What separates them is what happens between the songs, and in the weeks before the wedding even starts.
Preparation before you arrive
Chris skips genre templates. For every wedding, he runs a music consultation to learn your guests' ages, tastes and expectations, then builds a custom playlist from that. The first song sets the tone. The last song tells people how the night went. Both are chosen deliberately.
Reading the room live
The playlist is a starting point, not a fixed set. Chris watches the floor: who's dancing, who's sitting, when the energy peaks, when a shift into a different tempo or genre will open the floor rather than clear it. That's a skill built over 24 years, not a setting on a software app.
Seamless transitions
A song ending is the moment most DJs lose people. Chris blends key, tempo and energy so the transition disappears. Guests don't notice him switching tracks. They notice they've been dancing for two hours straight.

Why the same person as DJ matters
When the MC and DJ are different people, a handover problem shows up almost every time: the MC finishes an announcement and the DJ starts the music a beat late, the run sheet changes and only one of them hears about it, or someone's speech runs long while the DJ keeps watching the clock instead of waiting for the cue.
When Chris is both MC and DJ, there's no handover. The person talking is the person controlling the decks, so the music starts right on cue. Timing only has to pass through one mind, not two.

How the music consultation works
Before the wedding, Chris sits down with you, in person or by call, and goes through your music preferences from the ceremony processional to the last song of the night. You build a list of must-plays, add a do-not-play list, and talk about your guests: their ages, tastes, and whether the crowd leans towards dancing or prefers to sit and listen.
From that conversation, Chris builds a playlist that works as a guide, not a script. On the night he reads what's working and adjusts in real time. Couples who request songs on the floor often find Chris has already queued the right follow-up.

What does a wedding MC do?
The MC is the host of your reception. They welcome guests, keep the run sheet moving, introduce speakers, cue musical moments (first dance, cake cut, bouquet toss), liaise with venue staff and the kitchen, and manage the energy of the room between courses and formalities. A good MC is confident on the microphone, warm with guests, and fast on their feet when the run sheet shifts. Chris has hosted over 1,200 events, so the job is second nature to him.
Do I need both a DJ and an MC?
Yes, for a full reception. You need someone managing the microphone and run sheet (MC) and someone managing the music (DJ). Having the same person in both roles, as Chris does, is the smoothest option because one person knows the full picture at all times. If you only need music for the reception and your venue or wedding party will manage the formalities, a DJ-only booking is also available. Talk to Chris about what your reception needs and he will give you an honest recommendation.
Can you take song requests on the night?
Yes, with good judgement. Requests are welcome all night. Not every request fits the moment though: a slow ballad at the peak of the dance floor, or a song that clashes with what's playing, does more harm than good. Chris fits requests into the flow, queues them at the right moment, and occasionally parks one that would hurt the vibe, diplomatically. Advance requests submitted before the wedding get handled during the playlist consultation.
What equipment do you use?
Party Central sizes equipment to your venue: line-array speakers for larger spaces, column speakers for smaller or more intimate rooms. DJ gear includes industry-standard Pioneer CDJs and DJM mixers. Lighting runs LED wash fixtures, moving heads and uplighting. Wireless microphones, handheld and lapel, cover speeches and formalities. Every setup includes a backup system on-site, PAT tested and fully insured.
How early do you arrive to set up?
Typically 2 to 3 hours before guests arrive. Setup time depends on the equipment: a full DJ and MC rig with lighting and multiple wireless mics takes longer than a ceremony-only audio setup. Chris coordinates arrival time directly with your venue coordinator, working around caterer and florist access windows. By the time guests arrive, everything is tested, levels are set and the first song is queued.
Do you have backup equipment?
Yes. Every Party Central setup includes backup audio equipment on-site: a solution ready for primary speaker failure, laptop issues or mixer faults. In 24 years and 1,200+ events, a technical failure has never stopped or disrupted a Party Central event. The backup gear stays ready because it's never been needed, and Chris plans to keep it that way.
Can you DJ for the ceremony as well as the reception?
Yes. Chris can provide audio for the ceremony (processional, signing music, recessional) as a separate setup from the reception rig, or as an extension of the reception setup if the ceremony and reception are in the same space. Ceremony audio includes wireless lapel microphone for the celebrant and handheld microphone for readers. If Chris is also your celebrant, he coordinates the audio cues himself, which removes one handover point.
What music genres do you specialise in?
Pop, hip hop, R&B, dance, 80s, 90s, 2000s, Latin, funk, soul, country, and everything in between. Chris has spent 24 years working across genres in clubs, festivals and corporate events, so he's comfortable in all of them. The ceremony and cocktail hour typically lean towards acoustic and jazz. The reception party set follows the crowd. Whatever your guests love, that is where the night goes.
How many hours does wedding DJ coverage typically cover?
Most wedding receptions run 5 to 6 hours from the time guests arrive at cocktail hour to the last song of the night. Chris covers the full reception from cocktail hour through to the end. Ceremony audio is a separate addition. If your reception runs long, which happens more often than you'd think, overtime is managed without fuss. Talk to Chris about your specific timeline and he will give you an honest picture of what coverage you need.
How far in advance should we book our wedding DJ and MC?
As soon as your date is confirmed. South Coast, Southern Highlands and Illawarra weekends across October to April book out fastest, often six to twelve months ahead. A 25% deposit secures your date.
Do you bring your own lighting and sound equipment?
Yes. Every booking includes a full professional lighting rig and sound system sized to your venue, so there's nothing extra for you to hire or coordinate.
