What Is a Boomabooth?

The Format Your Guests Already Know From Instagram

A Boomabooth grabs a short, rapid burst of frames, typically 1 to 2 seconds of movement, and stitches them into a looping GIF or MP4. It plays forward, then backward, on repeat: the exact format your guests already know as the Instagram boomerang.

A still photo can't hold a group throwing confetti, clinking glasses or waving a sparkler mid-motion. The loop does. That's the kind of clip a guest actually pulls their phone out to replay within minutes of stepping away from the booth.

At weddings and events across Wollongong, Kiama, Berry, Nowra and Sydney, we set the Boomabooth up near the dance floor or the cocktail area. When your DJ lifts the energy and people are already moving, the booth catches that atmosphere rather than a stiff, posed shot.

It needs just 3m x 2m of floor space, far less than a mirror booth or the 360 platform. That smaller footprint means it fits into corporate venues in Wollongong CBD, school formals in the Sutherland Shire and birthday parties in Sydney's Inner West where a bigger rig simply wouldn't fit.

There are no physical prints. If you want guests to walk away with something in their hand, pair it with a mirror booth. If your goal is social content and instant sharing at a party or corporate event, the Boomabooth does that job on its own.

Chris's Boomabooth attendant works with your DJ to fire the booth up when the floor energy peaks. At a Wollongong or Nowra reception with a live DJ, that means the content comes from the real party, not a quiet corner during dinner service.

Digital Only, Built for Social

The Boomabooth produces GIF and MP4 files that are directly shareable to Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok and WhatsApp. Guests share at the event, not later at home.

Compact Footprint

Needs just 3m x 2m of floor space. Works in venues and spaces where larger booth formats cannot fit.

Boomabooth vs 360 Booth

Two Different Products for Two Different Vibes

Both formats produce video content that guests share on social media. The key difference is in how they capture the moment and what the output looks like.

Boomabooth

  • + Fixed camera angle, burst of frames looped
  • + GIF and MP4, instantly compatible with Instagram and TikTok
  • + Small footprint, 3m x 2m space needed
  • + Better for capturing a spontaneous, energetic moment
  • + No physical prints, digital only

360 Video Booth

  • + Rotating arm sweeps 360 degrees around guests
  • + Slow-motion MP4, more cinematic look and feel
  • + Larger footprint, needs 6m x 6m clear zone
  • + More dramatic and immersive for up to 6 guests at once
  • + No physical prints, digital only

Common Questions

Boomabooth FAQs

What is a Boomabooth?
A Boomabooth captures a rapid burst of frames, typically 1 to 2 seconds of movement, and stitches them into a looping animated GIF and MP4 video. It plays forward and then backward in a continuous loop, the same format as the Instagram boomerang feature. The output is digital-only, made to post straight to social media.
What is the difference between a Boomabooth and a 360 video booth?
The Boomabooth uses a fixed camera to capture a short burst of frames from a single angle that then loop. The 360 video booth uses a rotating arm to capture slow-motion footage from every angle simultaneously. Both produce shareable video content, but the 360 is more cinematic and dramatic while the Boomabooth is more spontaneous and social-media casual. The Boomabooth also has a much smaller physical footprint.
Do guests get a physical print?
No. The Boomabooth is a digital-only format. There are no physical prints. If you want guests to take home a printed photo, consider adding a classic mirror booth or modern mirror booth alongside the Boomabooth. Ask about combination pricing when you enquire.
How do guests receive their clip?
Guests provide their mobile number and receive an MMS link to download their GIF and MP4 within minutes of their session. An email option is also available. All clips are also collected in an online gallery shared with you within 48 hours of the event.
What space does the Boomabooth need?
The Boomabooth needs approximately 3m x 2m of floor space, well under the 360 booth's 6m x 6m requirement. A standard 240V power outlet within 5 metres is also required. This compact footprint fits venues where a larger booth format simply wouldn't.
Is the format compatible with Instagram?
Yes. The GIF and MP4 formats produced by the Boomabooth are directly compatible with Instagram Stories, Instagram Reels, TikTok, WhatsApp and all major social platforms. Guests can share their clip directly from their phone immediately after receiving it.
Can I add a custom overlay or branding?
Yes. Every booking includes a custom overlay with your names, date, logo or message. For corporate events, company logos and brand colours can be incorporated. The overlay design is sent to you for approval before the event day.
Is an attendant included?
Yes. A dedicated attendant is on-site for the full hire period. They manage sessions, send clips, manage props and coordinate with your DJ and MC to ensure the booth runs at the right moments in your event's timeline.
Can I hire a Boomabooth alongside a mirror booth?
Yes. Running a Boomabooth alongside a classic mirror or modern mirror booth at the same event covers both formats. The Boomabooth creates shareable digital content, and the mirror booth gives guests a physical print to take home. This combination is popular at larger weddings and corporate events, and you can ask about combination pricing when you enquire.
What events is a Boomabooth suitable for?
The Boomabooth is ideal for wedding receptions, cocktail hours, birthday parties, school formals, corporate events, end-of-year functions and any event where guests are already energetic and social media engagement is a goal. It is particularly effective alongside a DJ, where the booth can capture content from peak energy moments on the floor.
How far in advance should I book a photo booth?
As soon as your date and venue are set. Weekends across the South Coast and Southern Highlands between October and April book out fastest, often six to twelve months ahead. A 25% deposit locks in your date and booth choice.
Do I need to tip the photo booth attendant?
It's never expected. The attendant's time is already included in your package, but if your guests have a great night, tips are welcome and go straight to the attendant on shift.

What is a Boomabooth?

A Boomabooth is a boomerang-style video booth that captures short bursts of movement and creates looping GIF clips — similar to Instagram's Boomerang feature but at higher quality.
